With 86 food vendors, I had no doubt I would find my Dish of the Week at Village Voice’s annual Choice Eats event. It was a massive food festival with many of NYC’s hottest restaurants and food businesses offering a taste of their food.
It wasn’t until I started sampling the dessert that I realized I had found my favorite dish of the week. And it’s no surprise that it comes from one of my favorite companies, the Robicelli’s. Husband and wife hilariously appeared on my Valentine’s Day video last year and they turn out inventive and game changing cupcakes. I pick them up anytime I find myself near one of their retail locations. But I had never tasted their brownies. And that’s what they were serving at Choice Eats.
After I took a bite of their excellent brownie, I almost forgot that this duo even bakes cupcakes. The brownie, which was infused with Brown Ale, had a firm chocolatey crust with a soft gooey fudge-like interior. It practically melted away in my mouth leaving a trail of buttery chocolate goodness.
The Robicelli’s will be releasing a cookbook due out this fall. I can’t wait to see what else they have in store and how I can screw up the recipes at home myself.
